About Us And Our Rabbits
We are not a business and we do not breed/sell our rabbits to gain a profit. We are hobby breeders who also like to exhibit our rabbits at shows. We do not have hundreds of rabbits and we do not always have babies to sell. Our rabbits are bred to improve health and vigor – type and temperament. All babies are handled every single day to help them become relaxed and trusting in your arms. We feed only the best quality foods and keep our rabbits fit and in excellent condition. During better weather they also get regular access to outside runs for exercise and play. We do not ‘cull’ our rabbits – any that have finished breeding or are not quite suitable for showing are found loving pet homes. We do have some retired rabbits that remain with us as ‘lifers’ where they live in a hutch with free access to an attached run as our pets.
As a specialist for the rarer colors we do have ‘Projects’ we work on.. until we feel our projects are starting to look something like a show type rabbit then we usually only allow the excess offspring to go as pets though occasionally we will offer pairs and trios to a Show Breeder we know will be dedicated and committed as we are.
Our Policy For Homing Our Babies..
We are responsible and ethical Breeders – we care about every single baby. NONE of our Netherland Dwarf babies are rehomed under 9/10 weeks .. they are NOT weaned from their mothers till 8 wks of age. We never allow a baby to go if we do not feel he/she is in perfect health with good weight. Every rabbit is rehomed fit and well to the best of our knowledge. Some rabbits are more prone to stress when changing homes than others and there will always be the odd rabbit who does not fare well with the changes in diet/water or routine but we do everything we can to help our rabbits settle in their new home. But if by some awful circumstance you lose one of our babies in the first 7 days due to genuine circumstances such as illness/stress (ie: NOT that your dog killed it – or it escaped or your child dropped the baby etc)! then we will offer a replacement.
What We Expect From You..
We will never rehome a rabbit to someone under 18 unless accompanied by parents. You also need to confirm to us that you understand the needs of the rabbit(s) you wish to home and have appropriate living accommodation and accessories for them before you collect. We do provide a Care sheet to all pet owners setting out the needs of the Netherland Dwarf breed and the routine/feed they are used to within our Rabbitry. If we feel you are not a suitable home we do reserve the right to refuse to sell to you if we feel our rabbits’ needs will not be met .
We do prefer collection so we can meet you and discuss our rabbits’ needs. We do not accept courier from pet owners .. we would be happy to arrange collection through shows if we are attending and only allow courier through registered approved businesses with good reputation.
We generally do not export out of the UK except in special circumstances. We also expect you to collect your baby when he is ready at the date/time agreed.
If you find you can no longer provide the right care for the rabbit you purchased from us we are happy to take him or her back into our home. We cannot offer any refunds for them and you will need to provide at least a week’s supply of food so we may wean your rabbit back into our feed plan gently to cause the least stress. We like to know where our rabbits are and do not like to think they may end up in rescues.
What We Provide..
Every rabbit leaves with a bag of the feed we provide to help them wean gently on to the food you wish to feed.. this is so their stomachs are not shocked by the change in proteins etc - we also supply a small dose of Entracare if available (a gut flora probiotic that aids their stomach in coping with the stress of the move and new water/diets). We always give every pet owner a detailed care sheet that goes through the housing/food and care your new rabbit will need to remain happy. This care sheet also has our contact details in case you ever need advice.
Baby Reservations
Although we prefer not to have our babies booked until they are all ready to go we are constantly asked for babies and have a sort of open ended waiting list. If a baby comes up with show/breed potential we will allow reservation from 8 wks pending how they proceed in quality of growth. Pet companion babies may be reserved from 7 wks but again will not be allowed to leave until we feel they are ready to go. A non-refundable holding fee of £10 is required through Paypal or in person to reserve your commitment. If 2 wks has passed after the due collection date and you still have not arranged collection of your reserved rabbit or we have had no further communication from you we will re-advertise the baby and you forfeit your holding fee. If by unfortunate circumstance there becomes a health issue with the baby he/she will remain with us until we feel he is back to top condition again or we will offer a replacement – if you do not wish to accept the replacement this is the only time a holding fee will be refunded. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any baby's show potential .. all show babies are sold as having potential only.
Prices
Our rabbits are priced according to their quality. We are not greedy and do not demand inflated prices. We do not give rabbits away for free as we feel this may attract the wrong kind of owner who may not have the rabbit’s best interests at heart. Sales are all ploughed back into the rabbits to purchase feed – hay – shavings - water bottles – treats – toys – new hutches and other accessories. We almost never make ANY profit and consider ourselves having had a darn good year if we break even.
Vaccinations
We have been vaccinating against the dreaded RHD1+2 virus for several years now and have to date never had a case of RHD in out Rabbitry (touch word)... this is a dreadful fatal disease sweeping around the world with origins tracing back to a Laboratory (yes man-madde) to control wild rabbit populations!
Any baby purchased from us at 8 weeks will be protected by their mother's antibodies to the disease until approx 12 weeks of age so we strongly advise everyone to get their rabbit vaccinated asap from their Vet. In 99% of cases all teenagers and adults offered for sale will be vaccinated
